CHARLES ALLAN MASSEY Suddenly at his residence in Kenora, Ontario on Sunday, December 26, Charles Allan - Al departed this life to spend eternity with his Lord and Saviour. Allan was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on June 12, 1935 and was 64 years of age. He lived all of his early years in Selkirk growing up in a large family and on completion of his schooling worked a few odd jobs including several months in the Artic on the "D.E.W. Line". One of his jobs brought him to Kenora in 1957, and on July 19, 1958, he married the love of his life, Darlene. Al started employment with the O and M Paper Mill, later Boise Cascade and Stone Consolidated. He worked his way up through the ranks in the paper machines to Boss Machine Tender and served for several months on an interim basis as supervisor. After 38 years of service he retired in June 1996 to enjoy a well deserved, albeit short, retirement. Al loved tools and carpentry and loved to build. At the time of his death he was working on his fourth house, his pet project, his retirement home. He and his son, Darren spent many long fulfilling hours on this project, sharing many good times together. Al also loved to cross country ski and had gone for two trips last winter to enjoy skiing in Alberta. He especially enjoyed his trip to Jasper with Darren. Al also loved to garden and take long walks with his wife Darlene. He loved tractors and travel, camping and biking, dancing and music - especially old time music. He was proud of his collection of old trucks. But most of all, Al loved his family and was proud of his two children and his two little granddaughters who he affectionately called "the kiddies" and "Grandpas girls". They were all the light of his world as he was ours. Al leaves to mourn and cherish his memory always, his wife Darlene (of 41 years) his daughter Ellen and son-in-law Warner (Bloomfield) of Dryen, Abigail and Elizabeth; and his pal and partner, son Darren. Also left to mourn are seven brothers, Lorne (Bernice), Gordon (Alice), Russell of Selkirk, Raymond (Donna) of Lockport, Orville (Beverly) of East Selkirk, Richard (Pat) of Winnipeg and Neil (Betty) of B.C. Also one sister Verna (Leon) Kupchik of Selkirk. Brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Bernice) Baker, Ray (Grace) Baker, John (Cathy) Baker of Kenora and Dolores (Doug) Wise of Eagle River, Florence (Don) Parnell of Kenora; special cousin Ken (Maud) Massey of Winnipeg; numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many many friends. Allan was predeceased by his mother Jennie in 1982 and his father Percy in 1986. Funeral service in Kenora will be held at First Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 29 at 3:00 p.m. with Gordon Day-Janz officiating. Funeral service in Selkirk will be held Thursday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbarts Funeral Home with interment to follow at St. Clements Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations could be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society.
