Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDRICK CECIL YEO March 12, 1918 - December 26, 1999 After a brief illness, Fred passed away on Sunday, December 26, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81. Predeceased by his parents Emily (1963) and Samuel William Yeo (1962) his sister Norma Boyd Rowe (1999) and his brothers, Earl (1985), Jack (1983) and Irving (1998). Fred is survived by his loving family, wife Donna Mae; daughter Jennifer Lynne Yeo, husband Bruce Paracholski and granddaughter Hannah Christien of Vernon B.C.; stepgrandchildren, Lindsay and Tyler Paracholski of Morden, Man.; son Christopher Tully Yeo and wife Angie Thomas-Yeo of Calgary, Alta.; special mother-in-law Beatrice Tully of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Cecilia Yeo of Sydney, B.C. and Margaret Yeo of Abbottsford, B.C.; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Born in Swan Lake, Manitoba, Fred lived in Melita, Manitoba and Yorkton, Saskatchewan before settling in Bowsman, Manitoba where his family was in the hotel and restaurant business. He graduated from the Provincial Normal School in 1941 and taught in Egilson and Bowsman. He served in the RCAF from 1943 to 1945, then attended the University of Manitoba, graduating with a Bachelor of Interior Design in 1951 and a Bachelor of Education in 1957. After graduation, he was an in-house designer for Arnett Refrigeration and Hudson Bay House. However, he missed working with children and in 1954, returned to the teaching profession and spent 29 years with Winnipeg School Division No. 1, teaching at Riverview and Sargent Park schools. In 1965 he became an administrator and retired as the Art Consultant to the Division in 1983. Fred influenced many young lives, encouraging people to enjoy art and to appreciate the design and beauty of natural objects and the world around them. He taught "Painting in the Park" and "Saturday Morning Art Classes" for the Art Gallery. For over 20 years he worked on the Manitoba Association for Art Education Easter Art Exhibition which presented student art from all over Manitoba. He gave art workshops for teachers throughout the province and worked on the Provincial Art Curriculum. In 1995 he received a special award from the M.A.A.E for his "..Outstanding Contribution to Art Education in Manitoba." Always a young man at heart, Fred was kind, loving and dedicated to his family. He enjoyed traveling and camping with the trailer, gardening, the theatre, lawn & five-pin bowling and spending time with family and friends. He was a founding member of the Professional Interior Designers Institute of Manitoba, a past-president of the Manitoba Association for Art Education, co-chair of the Canadian Society for Education Through Art Conference, a member of Westworth United Church AOTS, the Mentors Club and The Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba. The family wishes to thank the staff and caregivers at the Health Sciences and Riverview Health Centres, as well as the Home Care and the VON programs. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Rev. Carol Fletcher and Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. A gathering of family & friends will be held in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 0C8.
