IRENE PEDEN Peacefully at Central Park Lodge, 440 Edmonton St., Winnipeg, Irene Peden passed away at the age of 98 on Monday, December 27, 1999. Irene was born in Balmoral, Man., November 14, 1901, moving with her parents (Alex and May Peden) to Stonewall in 1912. After completing school Irene went to Normal School. She taught in Fairford, Rivers and Roblin. In 1943 Irene moved to Ottawa to work for the Federal Government in the Central Pay Office. Irene retired in 1966 and came back to Manitoba to live. A few years before retirement Irene learned to drive a car. Irene was a member of Knox United Church and Sunshine Rebekah Lodge. Irene visited the sick and elderly members of Knox in their homes and in hospital. Irene also loved to play bridge. Irene leaves to mourn two sisters, Barbara Lawrence of New Westminster, B.C., Gertrude (James) Smith of Surrey, B.C.; one brother, James (Mary) Peden of Thunder Bay, ON; brother-in-law Keith Stocks of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall, on Thursday, December 30, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Mary Best officiating. Interment to follow in the Stonewall Cemetery. Thanks to the nursing staff at Central Park Lodge for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, in care of arrangements.
