Date of Passing: Dec 27, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABELLA (BELLE) THAIN TOMLINSON (nee WILSON) With her loving family by her side, Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away at the Concordia Hospital on Monday, December 27, 1999. She was predeceased by her parents William and Christina Wilson; six sisters, Willamina, Christine, Alice, Mary, Janet and Agnes; five brothers, James, William John, Robert and Neil; also her husband William. She leaves to mourn one daughter Darlene Gerbrand and son-in-law Peter; three grandchildren, Sandra Roman (Roger), Derek Gerbrand and Kimberley Gerbrand, as well as three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Tanisha and Lee James. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Belle came to Canada at the age of five and resided in Winnipeg for the remainder of her long life. She worked as a switchboard operator for several firms, retiring from Continental Grain at the age of 72. After retirement, she resided at 185 Smith Street for many years, then moved to Watt and Monroe for several years, then enjoyed her final years living next door to her granddaughter. There she enjoyed many visits from her great-grandchildren, who came for treats or to help Nana colour or to just sit and talk. Belle could always be counted on as a caregiver in anyones time of need. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and her knitting has left many loved ones with sweaters and afghans that will be cherished for years to come. She was considered a favourite aunt by many nieces and nephews because she was always young at heart, and her clear and accurate memory was relied on to answer many questions from the past. She enjoyed travelling, and did so after her retirement with her niece Anne Muir and later with dear friend Shirley Miles. She often spoke fondly of her 90th birthday celebration when family and friends gathered from across Canada in her honour. Her longevity could well be attributed to her unwavering obedience to follow the instructions of her Dr. Davidson to the absolute letter. She will be missed by all and will always be remembered in love. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sobering Funeral Chapel. Her nephew Jim Hanna and Pastor Jeff Kilmartin will be officiating. Interment will take place at the Beausejour Town Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Concordia Hospital for their care and kindness. Sobering Funeral Chapel & Crematorium in care of arrangements. Phone: 1-877-776-2220.
