MARY E. OWENS Peacefully, on Saturday, December 25, 1999, at the Portage Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, Mary Eleanor Owens passed away at the age of 93 years. Mary, the eldest daughter of Richard and Pearl Fisher, was raised in High Bluff, Manitoba. She married Norman Owens in 1924, and continued farming and raising a family in High Bluff. Mary was a tireless community worker, very active in her church, UCW and in the Ruth Rebekah Lodge, where she was a member for 50 years. Mary was predeceased by her husband Norman; son Trevor; sisters, Emma and Marion and her brother Eddie. Her daughter, Audrey Davis, also passed away on December 25, 1999, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Dorothy, Kay and Zelia; her daughter-in-law Dorothy Owens; son-in-law Ken Davis; grandchildren, Michael (Cathy) Owens, Scott (Dana Daciuk) Owens and Warren (Jennifer) Owens, Wendy Renard and Debbie Ferguson. Mary also leaves great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Caitlin, Sean and Erik. The family is very grateful to the staff at Lions Prairie Manor for the kindness and concern given to Mary in the past years. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 1:30 p.m. from Trinity United Church with Rev. Ross Taylor officiating. Interment is to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Marys memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
