Dad leaves to mourn, Evelyn (nee Moan) his loving wife of 58 years; his five daughters and their families: Pat Hill, her daughter Michelle Hill and partner Bill Mulcahy and grandson Billy, of Moor Park, California; Joyce and Ron Rogers of Stratford, Ontario and their children, Kristin and her partner Geoff Sinclair, and Brian and his wife Anne Marie; Linda and Chris Verscheure of Mississauga, Ontario; Judy and Richard Johns and their daughters, Katie and Maggie of Headingley; and Marilyn and Darrell Crooks and their children, Meghan and Andrew of Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Rustebakke of Winnipeg, Muriel Thomas of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Mary Dunbar of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Joan Donavan of Olathe, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his brothers, Maurice and Lionel. Born in Manchester, England on April 18, 1914, Dad immigrated to Canada with his family in 1925. They settled in the Interlake area at Erinview. Dad and Mom were married in Geraldton, Ontario in 1941 and soon after moved to Winnipeg. They have lived in Charleswood since 1952. Dad was a long time employee of Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian Pacific Transport working as Supervisor in shipping and receiving until his retirement. After retiring from Canadian Pacific, he worked for the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department as a starter at the Windsor Park Golf Course. His skills and dedication were quickly recognized and he soon found himself with a second career in a management position for the City of Winnipeg public golf courses. Dads first priority was to provide for his family. He did so with a generous heart never losing his wry sense of humour. We will remember his passion for music which filled our home, and the love of which he enthusiastically encouraged and supported in his children. He was an avid reader and enjoyed the poetry of Robert Service whose works he would recite to the delight of all. Thank you to Dr. A. McGowan and the staff on the fifth floor Victoria General Hospital for your support and care. Special thanks for the unconditional support from Dads "Golden Girls". Cremation has taken place. At Dads request, a funeral will not be held. A private memorial has been arranged. His final resting place will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire, a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or a charity of their choice. Peace be with you, Pop!
