Date of Passing: Dec 26, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGENEVIEVE ROWAN It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Genevieve Rowan on December 26, 1999 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by her loving husband Alexandre; she is survived by her daughter Yvette Fournier (Roger) sons, Roland, Leo (Rosemary), George (Marie) 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one brother Lucien Legal (Irene) two sisters, Josephine Legal, Jeanne Pelletier and special son Wally Rowan (Irene). She was a member of the Grey Nuns Associates and the Daughters of Isabella. Memeres whole life was dedicated to her family and service to others. As a volunteer for Centre Laurent, a clothing depot for the needy, the nuns in charge and other volunteer workers were amazed at her ability to know and recognize what each person needed and finding it for them, to their joy and contentment. The Rowans were a very united and loving family, their children and grandchildren always being very close. Every Sunday the entire family gathered together at pepere and memeres to enjoy each others company, as well as memeres culinary feasts. Their home was not only open to the family, indeed their hospitality was nothing short of legendary. Everyone felt welcomed, and it is not surprising that so many did indulge in their hospitality. Memeres love of God reflected in every moment of her life. Family and friends knew her prayers were answered and often asked her to intercede for them. She prayed for hours each day, and every evening recited the Rosary along with a tape recorded by her later sister Therese Legal s.g.m. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 30 from the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 31 at the St. Boniface Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. Albert Frechette presiding. Interment will follow in the Green Acres Cemetery. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff of B5 St. Boniface Hospital for their loving care and compassion.
