PETER HENRY MIERAU Peacefully, in the presence of his family at the Concordia Hospital, Peter Mierau went to be with the Lord on December 31, 1999 at the age of 84. He is survived by his loving wife Hilda; daughters, Irene Sawatsky with husband John, Ursala Wiebe with husband Erni; as well as five grandchildren Tamira, Cynthia with husband Greg, Robert, Jonathan and Philip. Also surviving him are his sister Lena Traber, and brothers Jakob and Heinrich. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Hans, and his first wife Rosa. Peter was born in Russia on October 21, 1915 and graduated from medical school in Odessa in 1939. The Second World War separated him from his family and a few years later he learned of his wifes passing. In 1949 he emigrated to Canada and specialized in Pathology. He practiced at the Misericordia, Victoria and Concordia Hospitals until his retirement in 1980. In 194 Peter and Hilda were married and together they showed their love for God and His people by serving the Winnipeg Central Mennonite Brethren Church as deacons for many years. He enjoyed visiting with his family and socializing with his friends and relatives. Working at the cottage, planting trees and collecting stamps were some of his many interests. He will be greatly missed by his family who remember his gentle nature and consideration of others. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to MCC or to MB communications. Friends may pay their respects at the Klassen Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 4, at 8:30 p.m. or at the funeral service to be held in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
