PETER CHRUNYK On December 29, 1999 with his wife by his side, Peter Chrunyk passed away at Riverview Health Centre after an arduous, yet tenacious final battle with esophageal cancer. Born in 1919 in Malkowiczy, Peremyshel district of Ukraine. Peter immigrated to Canada in 1948 with the hopes and dreams of building a better life for himself and his family. With the perseverance, determination and tenacity which characterized his whole life he achieved that goal. He was a highly skilled carpenter, a proud member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 343 for 50 years and worked in the construction industry until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed his workshop and helping family, friends and neighbours solve their repair problems. A private man, he expressed his love and pride in his family by deed rather than by word. Survived by his wife of 49 years, Kataryna; sons, Raymond (Elsie), Gerry; daughter Patricia (Glen) grandsons, Matthew, Michael, Justin and Alexander; brothers, Paul (Waltraud) in Winnipeg and Walter in Siberia, along with nieces and nephews here and abroad. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 3 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 4 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be M. Deputat, M. Haluk, P. Korbutiak, N. Mandjiy, T. Meleshko and A. Wasyliw. In lieu of flowers, friends who so desire, may consider donations to Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation or Riverview Health Centre. Special thanks to our niece and cousin Irene for her counsel and support, staff of Health Sciences Centre H6 and especially the exceptional staff of E3, Riverview Health Centre.
