PAUL ALEXANDER MCKAY Peacefully on December 19, 1999, Paul McKay passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Agape Manor Hospice in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 76. Paul was the beloved husband of Judy McKay; the father (in-law) of: Glen (Reta), (ex Cheryl), Carole (Clark) Sinnott, Rick (ex Mary), and Tim (Liz) the grandfather (in-law) of Shauna (Blair) Burke and Michelle McKay; Kerry (Brian) Babiuk and Lisa Sinnott; Shane, Travis and Colin McKay; Lindsay, Garrett and Dana McKay; the great-grandfather of Olivia and Bregh Burke. He was the brother (in-law) of Margaret Duffin, Mona Sargeant, Maureen (Ray) Donahoe, Pat (Ray) Mager and (Joy) McKay. He was also the uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his brothers, Edward (Bunny) and James; his brothers-in-law, Allan Sargeant and Malachy Duffin; as well as his parents, James and Mary Louise McKay. Paul was born June 29, 1923 in St. Boniface and was educated at Provencher School. On January 4, 1945 he married Judy and would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on January 4, 2000. In 1970, 350 guests helped them celebrate their 25th Anniversary and many friends, family and Cote Street neighbours attended their 50th Anniversary in 1995. Paul served in the Air Force during the Second World War and was a peace officer and switchman with the railroad in the years following the war. He was a career salesman in windows, dairy equipment and lumber. During his many years in Winnipeg, he was active in the community working at the HMCS Chippawa pool with polio patients, with the Archwood Community Club, and as a Boy Scout leader. He was also a member of The Association of Commercial Travellers, The Royal Life Saving Society Canada, The Norwood St. Boniface Branch No.43 of the Royal Canadian Legion and the St. Boniface Carving Club. Dad loved to fish and watch nature while camping across Canada and the U.S.A. with his young family. He spent many enjoyable hours in his cubicle sweet cubicle creating wooden crafts such as walking sticks, ox carts and his famous cowboy boots. Paul and Judy retired to Calgary in 1985 to pursue their love of the outdoors, joining an outdoor club where they made many new friends. Paul enjoyed swimming, hiking, cross-country skiing, and carving or as he called it, whittling. He also enjoyed travelling, having been to Alaska, Cuba, Ireland and Hawaii, to name only a few. Grandpa McKay also enjoyed volunteering one day a week at the food bank in Calgary with Granny McKay. Spud was a kind and friendly man who made friends easily wherever he went. He freely gave of his time and talents and was always ready to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Dad. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Calgary on January 13 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
