HELENA TOEWS On December 28, 1999 after a lengthy illness, Helena Toews died at the age of 92 years, ten months. She had been the last surviving member of the family of Jacob and Maria Krueger (nee Hamm) who immigrated to Canada from Russia in December 1900. Helena was born in the village of Neubergthal near Altona on March 5, 1907. There she met and married John Toews on October 31, 1926 and their marriage lasted for almost 61 years, until his passing in August 1987. Besides her husband, Helena was predeceased by two grandchildren, Elizabeth Toews and Gary Toews. Left to mourn the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother are her daughter Elma and husband Graeme Doyle, their son Richard; Bud (Bruno) Toews and wife Beverley, their children, Bob (Danielle), Ken (Judy), Dan (Nanette) and Karen (Michael Fancy) Albert Toews and wife Joan, their children, Wendy (Glenn Dondale), Michael (Lorena) and Kevin (Kim) Allan Toews and wife Marie. She also leaves nine great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lisa and Jason Dondale, Michael and Jordon Toews, Samuel and Joshua Toews, Sarah Fancy and Brendan Toews. Helena lived in Morris for over 50 years until April 1994 when she took up residence at the Personal Care Home, Deaf Centre in Winnipeg. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care she received here. We would also like to thank Bob and Betty Bartlette, now of Edmonton and Bill and Terry Howie and Ben and Maria Driedger of Morris for their assistance and many kindnesses which enabled Helena to remain in her own home for as long as she did. Because of unavoidable family circumstances, a private family graveside service will be held, and a memorial service will take place in Morris at a later date.
