EDNA PAUL (nee KNIGHT) It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Edna Paul on January 1, 2000 at the age of 78 years. Mom will always be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four sons and their families, Calvin and Ellie (Jason, Laura, Alexandra and Jordan), Don and Gail (Lauren), Lorne and Shirley (Jen, Rich, Jaydon and Scott) and Brent and Pam (Keelan, Sutter and Drake). Additionally, she leaves to mourn her many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill; her parents, Bill and Ida Knight; grandson Gavin; her brother Harry and her brother-in-law Gordon. Mom was born on August 8, 1921 to William Knight and Ida Findlay. Born on the family farm in Durban, Manitoba at the foot of The Duck Mountains, she was the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters. There, she assumed the role of not only big sister, but nanny. Mom later moved to Winnipeg, where she met our father Bill Paul. They soon wed and provided a loving home in Elmwood for their four boys, which was always bustling with activity. Then in 1971, our father passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Mom took in children to babysit in our Johnson Avenue home and lovingly cared for these kids as she had her own. Later she was employed with Family Services and cared for many children, who benefited from her caring and selfless demeanour. Many years after her retirement, she continued to be invited to attend many of these childrens birthdays and weddings. Mom took great pride in her family and especially relished in the close relationships she enjoyed with her daughters-in-law, whom she thought of as her own daughters. Mom doted on her grandchildren, who held such a special place in her heart. Mom was a huge sports fan. She especially enjoyed watching her sons play hockey, lacrosse, baseball and football. She would always cut out the newspaper clippings and kept her own scrapbook of her sons sporting achievements. Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and a quick wit. She had a great zest for life and enjoyed sharing stories and laughing with her family and many friends. She also enjoyed her many years of teaching Sunday School and was a devout Lutheran. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Lee and the terrific nursing and support staff in the N3 East Wing at the Concordia Hospital for the kindness and compassion they showed towards our Mom and the family. As cremation has already taken place, a memorial service has been arranged for Thursday, January 6 at 2:30 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church, 484 Maryland Avenue at Ellice with Pastor Ted Chell officiating. Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of our Mothers life. Contributions in Moms memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. God saw her getting tired, And a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her, and whispered "Come with Me". With tearful eyes we watched her And saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly, We could not make her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
