JOHN HAMILTON Peacefully and with his family present, John Hamilton passed away in his 89th year on the morning of Friday, December 31, 1999 following a brief illness. Dad is survived by his loving and devoted wife Barbara; daughter Dorothy (Ray) Knowles of Winnipeg; son Donald (Lynda) of Brandon; son Patrick (Nancy) of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Patricia (John) of Winnipeg; granddaughters, Shelagh, Kathy, Kimberly and Michelle (Winnipeg), Laura (Calgary), Kelly and Karen Rae (Auckland, N.Z.), Dianne and Alison (Brandon) grandsons, Jeffery and Scott (Winnipeg), Grant and Graeme (Brandon) and great-granddaughters, Tara and Jamie (Winnipeg), and Madison (Auckland). Dad was predeceased by infant daughter Peggy; eldest son John; parents, John and Mary; younger brothers, George and Alfred. Dad was born in Partick (Glascow), Scotland on April 23, 1911. Following his fathers death upon serving in India during the Second World War, the family immigrated to Canada to be with family in High Bluff, Manitoba. Dad worked for almost half a century for the City of Winnipeg; in later years he supervised the St.James and North Main transit garages. Dad enjoyed remarkable health throughout and established a daunting standard by not losing a single day to illness. Dad was also recognized for his support to help establish the Assiniboine Credit Union. His marriage to Mom on January 10, 1931 has been happily celebrated with family and friends at their many significant milestones. Raising a family was a main focus and Dad particularly enjoyed the familys leisure time, whether gardening, fishing, camping, picnicking or holiday travels by car. His other interests involved curling and golf especially after retirement. Dad is best remembered for his patience, optimism and kind, generous, caring and encouraging attitude. He was willing to put the needs of others ahead of his own and always displayed a warm smile that brightened the day. Dad was proud of his Scottish heritage and successfully nourished this and other important family values. He was a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather and loyal friend. He will be lovingly and sadly missed by all that knew him. "May he Rest in Peace". A private family service will be held with interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
