PETER HUCUL It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter Hucul at his home on December 31, 1999 with his family at his side. Peter will be dearly missed by his loving wife Jonina; his youngest son Peter Jr. and his son Derek; his son George (Lory) and their children, Corrie and Jody; his only daughter Diane (Bob Minaker) and their children, Joanne (Bryan) and Brian (Ela). He is also survived by his youngest sister Kathleen Pranschke of Ottawa. Peter was predeceased by his parents, George and Sadie Hucul; an infant sister; brother John; and sisters, Mary and Lil. Peter was born May 23, 1923 in Edrans, Manitoba. The family moved to Camp Morton on Lake Winnipeg were he attended grade school. He continued his education in Gimli and at St. Pauls College. He was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway for some 43 years until his retirement in 1983. It was following a busy life with the railroad that he developed a love of both golf and curling. He was a longtime member of the Northeraire Golf Club and Victoria and Fort Garry Curling Clubs. He not only enjoyed the game but also served as a member of the Executives. The 50-50 draws at Fort Garry will never be the same. He was also a life member of First Lutheran Church where he married his sweetheart Joni in 1948. Together they built a strong network of close friends in Winnipeg and at the cottage he built at Hnausa on Lake Winnipeg. While Peter enjoyed carpentry, shopping for bargains, gardening, curling, and golf, his true passion was found in his love for his family. He took great pride in the many milestones and accomplishments of each of his children and his grandchildren. His friendly smile and genuine caring nature will be dearly remembered and missed by all those who were fortunate to know him. The family is appreciative of the many acts of kindness extended during the past two months. The cards, the visits and your prayers will always be remembered. A special thanks to V.O.N nurse Celine for her caring and support. A memorial service to celebrate Peters life will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Lutheran Church, 580 Victor St., R3G 1R2 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., R3C 1B7.
