ZENETH (SONIA) HARASYM Mrs. Sonia Harasym, aged 70 years, resident of Marathon, passed away in Wilson Memorial General Hospital on January 1, 2000 with her son Bud at her side. Born in Chicago, she was the daughters of the late Wasyl and Maria Arseny. Sonia moved to Winnipeg as a child to Tolstoi, Manitoba and then moved to Winnipeg where she attended United College Normal School. Sonia was married to Bohdan (Bud) Harasym in Tolstoi on July 16, 1949. They moved to Pickle Crow, Ont. in August of 1952. These were the happiest years of her life. She and her husband were self-employed running with a brother and sister-in-law Harasym Transportation and they moved to Fort William in August of 1967. Bohdan predeceased her in 1985. Sonia was then employed with Zellers for many years and retired in 1991. Her main interests were her family, special friends, curling and bowling when younger. Survived by daughter Cathy and Ralph; son Bud and Joyce; daughter Darcia; sister Lianne and Doug Card of Aptos California; grandchildren, Chuck, Kevin, Ryan, Joshua and Stephen. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents and her husband. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Jenkens Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Sonia Harasym will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. January 5 in the Chapel of the Jenkens Funeral Home. Capt. Henk Willems of St. Georges Anglican Church will officiate. Services complete in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Lung Association would be appreciated.
