CLIFFORD WILLIAM BROWN On January 2, 2000 at his home in White Rock, B.C., Clifford William Brown, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away in his 91st year. Cliff, the only son of William and Lillian Brown, was born in Birmingham, England January 19, 1909, grew up and lived in Winnipeg until 1986 when he moved to Vancouver. He worked as an accountant in a variety of businesses prior to joining the Manitoba Civil Service from which he retired in 1974. During the Second World War he served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. Cliff was a long time active mason and Shriner in both Winnipeg and Vancouver. In Winnipeg he was a member of Ionic Lodge #25. He joined the Scottish Rite in 1944 and became a life member in 1974. He received his 33rd degree in 1976. Cliff was also a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. In 1946 he joined the Khartum Temple becoming Potentate in 1974 and was invited to join the Royal Order of Jesters. In 1979 he served as the Director General of the Midwest Shrine Convention. While in Winnipeg Cliff spent many hours working with and for the crippled children at the Shriners Hospital. In Vancouver, until his last years, he was an active member of the Ancient Light #88 Lodge (Ladner), the Tsawwassen Shrine Club and associate past potentate of the Gizeh Shrine (BC and Yukon). During his residence in Vancouver he was also active in volunteer activities for his community. Predeceased by his devoted wife Margaret in 1994 he is survived by his daughters, Dr. Donna Brown and Sandra Hanvey; his son-in-law Dr. John Hanvey; grandchildren, Kevin, Shauna and Tod Hanvey and their spouses and his great-grandchildren, Leah and Charles Hanvey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Delta Funeral Home, 5329 Ladner Trunk Road, Ladner, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital, c/o Khartum Temple, 529 Wellington Cres., Winnipeg, Man., R3M 0A5.
