Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWAWRZYNIEC (LAWRENCE) DRAPALA With deep sorrow the family announces the passing of their beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather Lawrence Drapala who passed away on January 5, 2000 at the age of 100 years. Lawrence was born in Poland. At the age of 18 Lawrence served in the Austria Army. Then in 1920 he fought for the independence of Poland and he was a participant of the Battle of Warsaw (Cud Nad Wislom). After the outbreak of the Second World War in 1940, he was taken with his family to Siberian Labour Camps. After receiving amnesty in 1942, Lawrence joined the newly formed Polish Army in Russia under General Sikorski, later the Polish Second Corp under Montgomerys British eight Army. Lawrence was awarded Service Medals of the First and Second World Wars. He served with the allied forces until the end of the war in 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. Lawrence came to Canada in 1948 with his wife and three children. They settled in Winnipeg. He was a faithful member of Holy Ghost Parish and a generous contributor to the Holy Ghost Building funds. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Karolina and all his brothers and sisters. Lawrence will be sadly missed by his children, sons, Ted (Janina), Mitch (Frances) daughter Josephine Maslanka (John) eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada, Poland and United States. The family wish to sincerely thank the caregivers at the Seven Oaks General Hospital for all their care, kindness and compassion shown to Lawrence and his family. Donations in Lawrences memory may be made to the Holy Ghost Church Building Fund, c/o Holy Ghost Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 342 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating.
