LEONARD KING Peacefully at the Ottawa - Carleton Hospital, Nepean, ON, on Sunday, December 26, 1999, in his 92nd year. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (nee Pickard). He was also predeceased by his parents, John and Jessie King, brothers Cyril (Gertrude), Reginald (Rose) and sister Winifred (Nick). He was much loved by his daughters Marilyn (Bob) Baker of Port Perry, ON, Patricia Thornton of Whitehorse, YT, Joan (Conrad) Gregoire of Kanata, ON and by his grandchildren Karen and Rob Baker, Sean and Kimberley Thornton, Carolyn and Marianne Gregoire. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends. Born in Bolsover, England in 1908, Len immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 14. He farmed for many years in various locations before joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1940. He served overseas as a hygiene officer for the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps during the Second World War and, after returning to Canada, became the first Public Health Inspector for the town of Selkirk and surrounding district. He retired in 1973 after 28 years of service. Len and Dot made their home in Selkirk until 1994 when they moved to Ottawa to be closer to family. Cremation and a family service have taken place. The family appreciates the care and support Len received at Thorncliffe Place Seniors Residence and at the hospital.
