LENA KOSTIW After a lengthy illness, Lena Kostiw passed away peacefully at her daughters home in Northridge, California on December 11, 1999. Lena was 87 years old. Lena was born in Poland on August 31, 1912. She came to Canada in 1927 and lived for a short time with her uncle in Selkirk, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg, where she met and married her husband Walter who predeceased her in 1981. Lena worked at various jobs throughout her life. She was also very active in a variety of organizations including the U.N.F. Lena retired from her job at the T. Eaton Co. in 1960 after 20 years of service as a dietitian, and she and her husband moved to Anaheim, California where they ran a successful business. Lena and Walter lived in California until 1976 when they sold their business and returned to Winnipeg to retired and be with family and friends. When Walter died in 1981, Lena chose to stay in Winnipeg until health reasons made her return to California to be with her children and grandchildren. Lena, who will be sadly missed by family and friends, leaves behind to mourn her; two daughters, Stephanie Raymond and Joyce Bybyk; one son-in-law Mike Bybyk; five grandchildren, Jesse Raymond, Russell Raymond and Donna Brown, Dr. Lynn Bybyk and Dr. Christine Bybyk; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters and one sister-in-law in Europe as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins scattered throughout Canada, United States and Ukraine. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Luxton Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street with Rev. Fr. Michael Kouts officiating. Entombment will follow in the Kostiw Family Mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery.
