DAVID HAROLD MOORE Born November 16, 1910, the eldest son of the four children of James and Irene (Watson) Moore of the Norgate district, David Harold Moore found eternal rest on December 26, 1999 in Erickson Personal Care Home. Harold was educated at Norgate School and then took employment in the construction field and as bus/taxi driver in Portage la Prairie until his enlistment with Winnipeg Rifles unit in March 1942. On June 6, 1944, his unit landed in Normandy and advanced too far into France and was surrounded. What was left of his unit was taken prisoner two days later. From June 8, 1944 to May 8, 1945 he was imprisoned in camps in France and Germany. Harold received honourable discharge in October 1945 and returned to taxi driving in Portage until purchasing a farm at Norgate in 1946. Myra Allan became his bride in July 1947 and together they continued to farm until Harolds poor health caused them to leave the farm for employment with National Parks. They moved to Onanole in 1957 when Harold became gatekeeper at the south entrance to the park. Harold chose retirement in 1974. Harold was predeceased by his wife Myra in 1991 and his son Donald Brent in 1997; father Jim in 1978 and mother Irene in 1983. Left to mourn his passing are daughter Debbie Reinson and husband Rod of Winnipeg; daughter-in-law Evelyn Moore of Foam Lake, SK; sister Ethel and two brothers, Gerald and Murray. Harold was a dedicated member of Royal Canadian Legion branches in McCreary and Onanole. He was an avid curler, fisherman and snowmobiler and a member of the Onanole Senior Cheery Chirpers until his move to Erickson Health Centre in 1998. Funeral services took place at Onanole Community Centre at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29 with Pastor Ted Jannuska officiating. Interment was in Danvers Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Sturgeon, George McLaughlin, Ellwood Brown, Jim Ferguson, Claire Allan and Calvin Allan. Sparrow Funeral Service of Minnedosa, MB was in care of arrangements.
