WILBERT SIGURDUR NORDMAN Wilbert Sigurdur Nordman of Baldur, Manitoba passed away at the Wawanesa and District Memorial Health Centre in the early evening of December 25, 1999 at the age of 90 years. He was laid to rest in Baldur Cemetery on December 31 following a late-morning service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baldur. Wilbert Nordman was born south of Cypress River, Manitoba on May 2, 1909 to Gudmundur and Sigurbjorg Nordman. He attended Cypress Valley School, farmed in the Cypress are until 1951, then worked as a carpenter and bridge-builder in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. On March 29, 1958 he married Anna Sveinsson and moved to Baldur, Manitoba. They had one son Donald. Wilbert became the first custodian of Baldur Elementary School in 1961, and he took care of the school until his retirement in 1981. For 20 years he served on the board of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baldur. Wilbert was a kind, gentle-hearted husband and father capable of great depth of quiet emotion. He had a quick wit, a warm sense of humour, and a talent for inspiring playful, affectionate teasing from his son, teasing which, more often than not, was answered in kind. He was tenaciously resilient, both physically and emotionally - a survivor until spirit and will were no longer enough. Wilbert collected antiques, enjoyed watching westerns, got a kick out of professional wrestling, kept up with current events, helped out around the house, and was a blessing to those close to him in many, many ways. Wilbert was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Carl; and by sister Lillian Chester. He leaves to mourn his passing, wife Anna; son Donald; brother Harold; sisters-in-law, Leita Nordman, Sigrun Isberg, Marie Sveinsson, Unnur Fraterman, Alice Sveinsson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memoriams in Wilberts memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B2, or to the Memorial Fund of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baldur. Jamieson Funeral Service of Baldur-Glenboro in care of arrangements.
