JOHN JOSEPH WYSPIANSKI It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Wyspianski after a courageous battle with cancer on January 5, 2000 at Riverview Health Centre with his family at his side. John will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Stella; and his three daughters, Pat (Bob) Chorney, Carol (Gary) Swyston and Marian (Brian) Alexander. He will also be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, Janice and Mike Chorney, Tammy and Kris-Ann Swyston and Amber, Dallas and Dustin Alexander. He is survived by his five brothers, Albert, Ed, Frank, Victor and Lloyd and their families and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Julie Wyspianski. John was born on May 18, 1920 in Chapleau, Ontario. He spent many of his younger years in Ontario and eventually moved to Matlock, Manitoba. He served in the Canadian Army with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in the Second World War from 1942 until 1946. He returned to Winnipeg and in August of 1946 married his sweetheart, Stella Radomski. He worked at the CNR for many years and during that time attended the Manitoba Institute of Technology to get his Power Engineering Certificate. He worked for Sears Canada from 1960 until his retirement in 1982 and then continued for another 5 years on a part time basis because he enjoyed the work and the people. Dad was always a hard working man, took his job seriously and was very intent on producing a high quality of work. His family were a priority and he watched with pride as his family grew to include son-in-laws and grandkids. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fixing things, a good game of cards and travel with Mom in his later years. Dad was known for his sense of humour, always being organized and thrived on learning more. The family would like to thank Dr. Miller and Linda for their excellent care, patience and understanding. Special thanks to the VON Home care nurses - especially Ann - those wonderful caregivers made his last few months manageable at home. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating. Viewing at the church just prior to Mass. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St. R3C 2B7 or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
