ROBERT CHARLES GMITROSKI Robert Charles Gmitroski, born in Brokenhead, October 21, 1930 passed away December 25, 1999 in Victoria at the Royal Jubilee Hospital Coronary Care Unit after a four week struggle with heart/lung complications. Irma, Wynn and Sheldon were at his bedside. Predeceased by his wife Mildred (Ostholm) in 1974, he was then fortunate to meet Irma Kilner and share his life with her for 18 years. Robert is survived by his partner Irma; sons, Wynn and Sheldon; daughter-in-law Susan; granddaughters, Taryn and Krysta-Leigh; Irmas daughters, Deborah Gorlick and family, Lisa Kilner and family; sisters, Nina (Tom) Regula and Elizabeth (William) Bodner; brothers, John (Rose) Gmitroski and Tony (Audrey) Gmitroski, former daughter-in-law Doreen Gmitroski and Angela Chalmers along with many relatives, friends and beloved dog Shelby. He was predeceased by his mother Albina in 1933; and his father John in 1965. Robert lived in the Tyndall area from his birth until September 1999 when he and Irma relocated to Victoria. Robert excelled in life, valuing family and friends above all. This was evident in the love of his life partners, his family and the work he performed in the community. Robert was a founder of the Tyndall Curling Rink and will be remembered as a skilled curler, baseball and hockey player. He drafted the plans for the Brokenhead River Regional Library. He presided as Chairperson for the Tyndall Centennial Committee and served for many years as an Elder at the Tyndall United Church and was a long time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Robert served as an Agassiz School Board Trustee for 31 years presiding as Chairperson for many years. He loved his family and we did him. Dads time in Victoria with us was too short, but the time we spent together with Dad and Irma was priceless. May the beautiful memories give us strength in the difficult days ahead. On January 14, a private family service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens. On January 15, a Memorial Service will be held in Beausejour at the Sobering Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Father Walter Klimchuk officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon. Sobering Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Beausejour. 1-204-268-3510.
