AUGUST RECKSIEDLER August Recksiedler passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2000 at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. He was born on February 1, 1912 at Sewell, MB to Karl and Emma Recksiedler (Kurbis). He married Erna Wonnick on October 15, 1942. He was a grain buyer at Sewell until 1959, after which he farmed until 1980. In 1996 they moved to Morris, and in June, 1997 he moved to the Red River Valley Lodge. August was predeceased by his parents; two sisters in infancy, three sisters in a house fire, two sisters, Paula and Etta, and three brothers, Albert, Henry, and Willie. He is survived by his wife Erna; one daughter Ellayn Ridalen of Cranbrook, one son Allen and wife Anne of Sewell; three grandsons, Kelly, Jeff (Susan), and Curt (Sondra) great-granddaughter Alexis; and two sisters, Minnie Kwasnicki and Holly Orser (Phil). August was baptized, confirmed, and married in the St. John Lutheran Church, Rosenfeld, and served on the church council for many years. He was an insurance agent for Red River Valley Mutual Insurance Company for 25 years. He was also actively involved in many community organizations, some of which were the Ebenezer Board, Altona, Valley Credit Union, Sewell Curling Club, and the Dewet School Board. Family was very important to August. He got great pleasure in watching his grandsons grow up, and his day brightened whenever he saw his great-granddaughter. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and staff at the Red River Valley Lodge for the loving care he received. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or the Red River Valley Lodge. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld. Viewing prior to the service at the church. Interment at the Sewell Cemetery.
