He was the first born to Whymer and Alida Toonstra of the Netherlands. He was predeceased by both parents and younger brother John. Surviving are Evelyn (John) Morgan, Joan (Bob) Boddy and Paul (Maureen) Toonstra. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Meg) Toonstra, his daughters Rhonda (Jaimie) Hickes, Tannis (Bill) Kotschorek, Gwen (Walter) Hubatka, Carla (Don) Holyk and his stepdaughters Marni-Lee (Alan) Karpiak and Christina (Chad) Klassen of Morris, MB. They are Tierney and Connor, Macey, Clay and Reid, Myles, Spencer and Reena, Cole and Gage. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins too numerous to mention. He will also be sorely missed by our best friends Heather and Richard Boroski. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all our family, friends and neighbours for their kindness during this difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Daeninck and the staff of Palliative Care, St. Boniface Hospital. Thanks also to Drs. J. Milner and A. N. Schroeder. David, Gina, Rachel, Sean, Joanne and Bernice, we especially appreciated your compassion and kindness. Tony realized his lifelong dream of building his own home in the country. He spent 23 happy years enjoying the results of his labour. He was an avid gardener, golfer and curler. He took an early retirement in 1993 from his responsible position as sheriff of the EJD of Manitoba. He enjoyed travelling. He was as happy camping on the riverbank of Thief River Falls as he was jetting to Palm Springs. He also loved vacationing in San Antonio and South Padre Island. He never missed an opportunity to volunteer his services to events such as the Pan Am Games in both 1967 and 1999, the Grey Cup Festivities in 1968, and burger flips for CCFC. He participated in several Law Enforcement Torch Runs to raise charity dollars for the Special Olympics. His courageous battle with cancer lasted four and a half years. Although often in pain, he still lived life to the fullest. A celebration of Tonys life will be held on Friday, January 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway with Padre Stan Millar officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group (MPCSG) # 705-776 Corydon Avenue, Winnipeg R3M 0Y1. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
