Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOPHIE CATHERINE (MUCHA) BALABERDA Peacefully at home with her family by her side, on Tuesday, January 12, 2000, Sophie was reborn into New Life. Born October 8, 1927, twelfth and last gift to her parents, Frank and Maria (Pasemko) Mucha, she grew up in the farming community of Killaly, Saskatchewan. On June 24, 1953, she married Frank Balaberda with whom she had three children, Cheryl (Lawrence), Randolph (Margaret) and Cynthia. She is also survived by her five beloved grandchildren, Adam and Erin Prokopanko of Winnipeg and Lynne, Neal and Glen Balaberda of Ottawa. Sophie always respected Life given by God and dedicated herself to loving the family He gave her. She expressed her creativity through growing and harvesting vegetables, decorating her home with flowers and creating delicate handiwork. Well known for her culinary talents, she created artistic food displays that were the envy of all. Faith, family and church community sustained Sophie through a long, trying illness. Precious to both Sophie and her family is the love and support of Father Ray Baudry. Sophies love for all will continue through the many lives she has touched: coworkers, caregivers, friends and extended family including sisters, Annie, Mary, Katie, Rosie, Bernice and Nellie; brothers, Mike, Henry, John, Stanley and Frank. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 14 and the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 264 Donwood Drive in Winnipeg. Interment at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophies memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses Winnipeg whose services, especially Anns, enabled her peaceful death at home.
