ADALBJORG (BOGGA) SIGVALDASON (nee SIMUNDSON) On January 13, 2000, Adalbjorg Sigvaldason, loving wife of Thorarinn Gudni Sigvaldason, passed away peacefully at the Arborg District Hospital. Adalbjorg was born on May 1, 1910, the younger child of Johann and Thora Simundson of Geysir. Her schooling consisted of a mixture of years at the Ardal and Island Schools and part time home tutoring. She continued to advance her learning through her great love of books and endless thirst for knowledge. She and Gudni farmed in the Framnes district from 1936 to 1983 and subsequently retired to Arborg. In their 63 years of marriage, Bogga and Gudni will be especially remembered as a mutually supporting couple who managed their responsibilities well and served as true role models to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other special friends. Bogga lived a very full life. She took great pride in her family, home and community. She was a gifted horticulturist and created parklike environments at their homes in both Framnes and Arborg. She retained keen interest in her Icelandic heritage and maintained a special understanding of its literary uniqueness. Bogga was always industrious and well organized. For several years she taught Icelandic classes in Riverton, Arborg and Gimli. She was always willing to spend time assisting with the researching, editing, translating and arranging of poetry, articles and books. Bogga was on the Board of Editors for the Arborg Historical Society; an active participant in the 4H movement; a member of the Framnes Ladies Aid; and served for many years on the executive of the Icelandic Club of Arborg (Esjan Chapter). She was accorded an honorary lifetime member of the Icelandic National League and of the Arborg Curling Club. She served as Fjallkona at the Icelandic Festival in Gimli in 1980. Adalbjorg will be remembered for her independent spirit, quiet determination, love of nature, resourcefulness, impeccable integrity, personal generosity and quiet humility. At her request, there will be no funeral. A private interment will take place at a later date. Bogga was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Hulda Signy Heid (1976) brother Gunnar Simundson (1983) sisters-in-law Margaret Simundson and Laura Magnusson and brothers-in-law, Bjorn, Jonas and Gunnar Sigvaldason. Bogga leaves a lifetime of special memories to be cherished by her husband Gudni; son Oskar Thor (Giancarla Criveller) daughter Ingunn Alda (Don Herman) granddaughters, Denise (Gary Fong) and Leslie (John Tuer) grandson, Thor (Maria) Sigvaldason and great-grandchildren, Cody, Jennifer and Alexander Fong and Heather and Thor Tuer. Bogga also leaves eleven of Gudnis brothers and sisters, Inga (Richard) Rothe, Anna Thorarinson, Ingvar (Sigga) Sigvaldason, Gudrun Johannson, Kristjana (Alder) Clark, Thordis Wilson, Valdine (Neville) Prentice, Olof (Geiri) Sigurdson, Einar (Alda) Sigvaldason, Beatrice Sigvaldason and Margaret (Eric) Rasmussen, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and special cousin Agusta Gudmundsdottir (Petur Thorvaldsson) and daughters Karen and Thorunn. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Adalbjorgs memory, to the Ardal Cemetery or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Mariette Muller and the staff at the Arborg District Hospital and our relatives and friends for their caring and visits. Goda Nott Elskan Arborg (MacKenzie) Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
