Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELSIE OLESKIUK (nee BURDENY) Peacefully, after a valiant struggle with cancer, Elsie passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital on Saturday, January 15, 2000. Elsie was born on October 9, 1923 in Ethelbert, Man. She came to Winnipeg at the age of 18 seeking work. She became friends with Kay, who introduced her to her brother John. Elsie and John were married on July 13, 1946. They had one child, Joyce. They lived in Elmwood for many years, later moving to East Kildonan. For a few years, Elsie and John operated the Elm Lunch. He home cooked meals and baking kept the place full. Mom will be remembered for the best borscht, cabbage rolls and perogies. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandma who cherished her grandsons. John and Elsie enjoyed travelling and went to Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Phoenix and across Canada. The highlight of their travels was their trip to Australia in march to see Kevin and meet Lynda, Chloe and Jai. Elsie will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 53 years, John; her daughter, Joyce Gera and husband David (whom she considered her "son") of East St. Paul; her grandson Kevin, wife Lynda and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Jai in Australia and her grandson, Duane (friend Camille) of East St. Paul. She is also survived by three brothers; two sisters; Johns family, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. on Wednesday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. A private interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Elsies memory may be made to the St. Boniface Palliative Care or to a charity of ones choice if desired as flowers are gratefully declined. God saw her getting tired When a cure was not to be, So He closed His arms around her And whispered "Come to Me" So when we saw her sleeping So peaceful and free from pain, We could not wish her back, To suffer that again. Forever in our hearts. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 Main Street 338-7111
