HARKEMA It is with deep sorrow our family announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Peter Harkema on Friday, January 14, 2000 at his residence. Leaving to cherish Peters memory are his loving wife Mary of 51 years; daughters Linda Weir (Murray) and Nancy Metzlaff (Ed) grandchildren, Matthew, Travis and Stephanie Weir and great-granddaughter Madyson Weir (two years old). He is also survived by his brother Luke in Fruitvale, BC. and sister Betty in Thunder Bay, ON., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Geraldina, a sister Hennrietta and baby sister Betty Ann. Peter was born June 14, 1928 in Paipoonge Township, Ontario. He worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Ontario for 34 and one half years, retiring in December 1984. Peter and Mary look forward to their winter vacations being in Florida, Spain, Hawaii and Mexico. Acapulco was their dream come true where they vacationed the past 20 years. Our family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris, Laurie and the girls in Oncology at the Grace Hospital. We also thank Donna Lyn, Kim, Glenn and the volunteer drivers for cancer as well as the VON Maryanna and Home Care workers. A special thank you is extended to Cliff Lawrence for always being there, always caring and many thanks to our dear friends Evelyn and Jim Fielder. Funeral Service for Peter will be held on Thursday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. in Wojciks Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue, 1 block west of Deer Lodge Centre. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division), 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7.
