JAMES (JIM) ARMSTRONG Peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre, on January 16, 2000, James (Jim) Armstrong passed away at the age of 85. Jim was predeceased by his wife Irene in 1975. He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons, Jim Armstrong (Lee), Bill Armstrong (Debby Jablonski) and his daughter Mary Coran (Kevin) grandchildren, Ken, Neil (Elizabete), Matthew, Jamie, Geoffrey, Bailey and great-grandson Jordan; also his niece Gloria Seale (Marvin) and cousins, Bill Armstrong (Marg), Jean Breckon and Dr. Jack Armstrong (Glenda) as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Jim was born on December 1, 1914 in Winnipeg. He graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in 1929 at which time he started working for the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. He later moved on to a career in sales which was interrupted by the Second World War. Jim served in the R.C.A.F. as a navigator from 1943 to 1945, spending the last year of the war as a POW in Germany. Upon returning to Winnipeg, Jim entered into the lumber business working as a salesman for "Steamer Maxwell." He continued on with this company which was later sold to Canfor, until his retirement in 1979 at the age of 65. Jim and Irene moved to the Norwood area in 1946 where Jim continued to reside for the next 53 years. Jim became a very active member of St. Phillips Anglican Church at this time and continued to attend regularly until this past summer, when his health would no longer permit it. Jim was also a member of the Norwood Masonic Lodge # 119 A.F. and A.M. since 1951, going on to achieve the position of Grand Master years later. In Jims younger years, he served as president of the Norwood Community Club, while also coaching the boys baseball team. Dad was a long time member of the St. Boniface Golf Club and continued to enjoy the game long into his retirement, with the club house becoming a second home for him where he spent many hours visiting with his golf buddies. During the winter season, Jim kept himself busy curling and bowling. He was also an avid card player, enjoying his weekend bridge and poker games with his many friends. "Fathers" presence will be greatly missed at all of the family get togethers. His subtle sense of humour always provided us with a chuckle. Dad, weve watched you getting tired over the last two years, now its time to let you rest. You will always be remembered. A celebration of Jims life will be held at St. Phillips Anglican Church, 240 Tache on Thursday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Gordon Shields officiating. A reception will follow at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date. Donations in Jims name may be made to St. Phillips Anglican Church. Flowers are gratefully declined. The family would like to thank the staff at Deer Lodge Centre on 2 South for their wonderful care of Jim over the last three months. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
