RUTH EILEEN SMETANA (nee TURGEON) On January 15, 2000 at Roseau Hospital, Minnesota with family and friends at her side, Ruth passed away peacefully at the age of 38 from a lengthy battle of cancer. Ruth will be sadly missed by her beloved family, husband Tim; daughter Lisa and son Micheal and mother Eileen Turgeon, all from Sprague; brother Pat Turgeon (Susie) sister Susan Turgeon and little brother Lawrence (Mona) of Winnipeg; nieces, Alexia, Jessica, Emily and only nephew Mathew; grandmother Iva Couseneau, North Bay, Ont. and numerous relatives. Ruth was predeceased by her father Reg Turgeon. Ruth touched the lives of many people. She had a heart of gold and knew how to show it and share it. We will all miss her as she was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. As Ruth would say, "Have Faith and thank God when you wake up, that you have another day." Her determination was endless. Special thanks to all her family and friends for their support and love and extra special thanks to Doctor Brandes for biding us time and the care he showed for Ruth, his little miracle. All the staff at the Cancer Foundation, Doctor J. Johnston and Sandy, Doctor Herseth, Roseau, Minn., staff at Roseau Hospital, Radiology departments, H.S.C. for all their care and cooperation and everyone else who helped us through the battle. At Ruths request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at South Junction Church (Highway 12 South East) and tea to follow in the Sprague Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Childrens Education Fund, Sprague Credit Union, Box 89, Sprague, Man., R0A 1Z0 or the Manitoba Cancer Foundation, 100 Olivia St., R3E 0V9.
