HELEN HAND Quietly and with her family at her side, Helen Hand was guided to eternal rest on Sunday, January 16, 2000 at Deer Lodge Centre. Mom was born in Kingston on July 10, 1932 to Albert and Margaret Richardson. Her strength was proven often as she struggled through a tough life that dealt her many tests and trials. She remained strong for her children and her family. She spent her last years at Deer Lodge and many people knew her there. She was seldom in her room. She enjoyed going to Chads Bar and had special friends there. She spent time with the staff and residents who she told her life stories to. There were special people like Tanis who volunteered her time to drive Mom to St. Adolphe to see her friends there and many nurses, doctors and other staff from Tower Six and Three East who gave selflessly of their time to Mom and who came to see her. The gift of their friendship was precious to her and a comfort to her family. Mom was predeceased by her parents and her second husband, Eric Hand. She is survived by her children, Donna (Larry) Currie of Guelph, Ontario, Pat (Russ) Evanochko and Brian (Carol) Gossel of Winnipeg. Her grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Jason, Allison, Kevin and Rebecca with whom she shared a special bond. Her brother Albert (Annette) Richardson of Ottawa, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A special thank you to Deer Lodge Pastor Aubrey Hemminger for his strength and friendship to Mom and being there with us all at the end as he helped guide her to her eternal glory which was promised her when she re-affirmed her baptism last spring. She enjoyed Sunday services. His strength helped our family through this very difficult time. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes will be laid in Ottawa with her parents. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 20 at Deer Lodge Centre Chapel, second floor. We give thanks through our sorrows that she is at peace. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
