Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) WILLIAM HUGHES Beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, mercifully passed away at St. Josephs Hospital, Comox, B.C. On January 13, 2000 after suffering the effects of several strokes. Jack is survived by his devoted wife Mary; sister Edna Greenhalgh; daughters, Lynn (Bob) Thomas and Carol (Kevin) Andrea Hughes; son Ian (Doreen) and grandchildren, Allison, Christy, Scott, Colin, Brynn, Nicole, Richard, Daniel and Roxanne. Predeceased by father John and mother Ada (Haywood). Jack was the ultimate dedicated family man who loved spending time and sharing with his wife, sister, children, grandchildren and many close friends. His favourite hobbies included gardening, walking, raising tropical fish, reading, crossword puzzles and watching soccer. He loved nature and enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family. Jack started his teaching career in Bolton, England and continued in Winnipeg where he completed his B.A. and B. Ed. Degrees. After many years in the classroom and as a principal, he retired in 1981. After retirement, Jack and Mary lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Thornton, England and Courtenay, B.C. Mary and Jack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 18, with Reverend Sarah Wallace and Pastor Gordon Carter officiating. A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of ones choice.
