JOHN FARACI With great sorrow we announce the passing of our deeply loved John Faraci, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. After a long, hard fight with leukemia, John passed away peacefully at the Grace General Hospital on January 17, 2000. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; sons, Edward (Thelma Wren) and Dennis (Louise Jonasson) daughter Linda Anderson (Dennis) grandchildren, Gregory, Robin, Katherine and Paige Faraci (Ed) and Stephanie and Brent Anderson (Linda) sister Rose Kotyk; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born in Winnipeg on September 8, 1916, the beloved son of the late George (John) and Rose Faraci, he was predeceased by his father and mother; brothers, Phil, Paul, Charles, Lawrence; and his sisters, Helen Turner, Josie Jamieson and Mary Russell. John lived in Winnipeg his whole life. His enthusiastic participation in sports, gardening, social clubs, service clubs (Elks) and cardplaying generated large circles of friends. John had a passion for his cottage life at Winnipeg Beach. You can still hear the music and fun and see the gardens that Helen and John provided for their family and friends there. These circles increased with his service in the dairy and insurance industries. After his association with Modern Dairy, Prudential Insurance and Allstate Insurance, he created Gateway Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1980. Even though Johns life was full of hard work, he was always thoroughly involved with, and dedicated to, the raising and support of his direct and extended families. Prayers will be said at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Friday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2400 Portage Ave., Saturday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Msgr. Ward Jamieson, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be Jack McBride, George McBride, Ronald Russell, John Jamieson, Vince Gerwing, Darren Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Jamieson, Donald Jamieson, Larry Russell, Richard Nelson (in absentia). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Grace General Hospital Foundation and they will be directed to the Palliative Care Unit. The family expresses their deep appreciation to Drs. Schroeder and Galbraith, and for the sensitive, professional care provided by the nurses and staff at the Grace Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
