MARTIN HENRY ALBERT SPREEN With his family at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer, Martin Spreen of Grand Marais, MB, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2000 at the Concordia Hospital, at the age of 83. Martin is survived by Ida, his loving wife of 59 years; three daughters, Louise (Joe) Kennedy, Marlene (Mike) Korol, Margaret (Lorne) Rach, and son Henry; by his grandchildren, Stephen (Jen), Kathy (Mario), Michelle (Les), Kevin, Robert, Selina (Todd), Rhonda (Darryl), and Rob (Lisa) and by his great grandchildren, Christopher, Jade, Gloria, Donica, Deliccia, Destiny, Joey, and Tyler who was the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen, Edna and Margaret; his brother-in-law Wally (Flo) Singbeil; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and by special family friends Gerald and Shirley Brown; as well as many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Martin was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Meta; his brother Walter; sister Adela; Auntie Meta and brothers-in-law, Egan, Nick, George, Chris, Fred and special friend Baker Savoie. Martin was born and raised at Jack Fish Lake, MB. on August 20, 1916. He served in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (Little Black Devils) from 1940 until 1945. Following his return from overseas, Martin settled at Grand Marais, where he was a building contractor for many years prior to his retirement. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Terry Throndson offiating, at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E., Beausejour, Man. A private family interment service will be held at Jack Fish Lake at a later date. The family extends heartfelt thanks for the care and compassion during this difficult time, to Dr. Jerry Bergen and 3rd floor staff at Concordia Hospital, to Dr. Corder and staff at Beausejour Hospital, and to doctors and staff of the Health Sciences Centre.
