HELENE KRAHN On January 18, 2000, at the age of 94, Helene Krahn died peacefully at the Concordia Hospital in the presence of her family. Mother was a caring person with amazing courage, fortitude and boundless energy in her younger years - up to her mid 80s. She had a resolute, resourceful personality; the words "it cant be done" were foreign to her. The welfare of her family was most central to her interests. She was not only concerned about their physical welfare, but also the spiritual. She had a strong faith in God, which she expressed in her activities in the Ladies Aid of her church, sewing for the Red Cross and M.C.C., and being ready to lend a helping hand where ever needed. In her latter years her health deteriorated increasingly; she had suffered with congestive heart failure for many years. On January 9th she developed a bad cough; when the doctor was called out, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Since her condition did not improve in spite of antibiotics, she was taken to the Concordia Hospital on January 13th, where she was treated for pneumonia and deteriorated congestive heart failure. The combinations of these two illnesses was more than her body could overcome. She was predeceased by her husband Anton on December 19th, 1989; one daughter in infancy and one son-in-law, in 1994. She is survived by one daughter, Helen Janzen; grandchildren, Ellie Linklater, Vic and Elly Janzen (Aaron and Danae) son, Dick (Erika) and grandchildren Tony and Virginia Krahn, (Jessie and Nolan) Andrea and Helmut Plett (Shaylyn and Daria) daughter, Cathy (Harry) Tiessen; grandchildren, Linda (Cal) Tiessen-Wiebe, Anita Tiessen with husband Craig Dickson (London, England) and Don Tiessen. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 20, at 1:00 p.m. at North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Street, with interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the "Frohe Botschaft", Faith and Life Communications, 200-600 Shaftsbury Blvd., R3P 2J1. Until we meet again! The grieving family. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
