JOSEPH JOHN FERNAND ST. LOUIS Peacefully, after a brief illness, on Tuesday, January 18, 2000, Joseph John Fernand St. Louis with family at his side passed away at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Man. Fern was in his 83rd year, and was the son of the late Alex St. Louis and the late Eva Villeneuve, and stepson of the late Georgette Montpetit. Left to mourn his passing are his children, Eva (Allan) Gaalaas of Stony Plain, Alta., Jack St. Louis of Fort McMurray, Alta. and Linda Miller of Winnipeg, Man.; his grandchildren, Kevin (Cherie) and David (Marnie) Smalridge of Edmonton, Brian (Sherry) Smalridge of Calgary, Kellan St. Louis of Fort McMurray, Jessica and Mark Miller of Winnipeg; his seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Adrian St. Louis of Essex, England; his sister, Frances McCormick of Ottawa and his sister-in-law, Lynn St. Louis of Ottawa, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Gilles. Fern had many friends and will be sadly missed. Fern was born in Maxville, Ont. and spent the majority of his life in and around the Cornwall and Eastern Quebec Townships with brief stops in Kirkland Lake, Ont., where he tried his hand at mining, and in Montreal, Que., where he found his true calling in sales. He served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War and held the rank of Staff Sargeant at the time of his discharge. Prior to his retirement, Fern had been a Regional Sales Supervisor with Dominion Automobile Association for some 30 plus years. In declining health, Fern moved to Winnipeg in 1997 to be nearer to his children. He was a hard working man, a good provider and a loving father. A memorial service will be held at the Riverview Health Centre Chapel on Wednesday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. At Ferns request, cremation has taken place and his remains have been entrusted to the McArthur Bros. and MacNeil Funeral Home, 428 Second St. E., Cornwall, Ont., for burial. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the excellent care given to our dad by the staff at Riverview Health Centre. Special thanks to Maria Bailey and Scarlett who were especially kind and supportive during the time he spent in their care.
