MARY (MAMIE) CHIURKA

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY (MAMIE) CHIURKA (nee SUSHNYK) On Sunday, January 16, 2000 at the Lloydminster Hospital, Lloydminster, Alberta, in her 82nd year. Mamie is survived by a large and loving family: her three children and their families, Diane and Claire Wicks of Toronto; Terry Potts (partner Larry Moore) and Sky Chiurka of Kaslo, BC and Randy and Joyce, Clayton and Cassie Chiurka of Lloydminster; her four sisters and their families: Amelia Carlson (Min and husband, Vic) of Hope, BC; Eugenia Edwards (Janey) of Kenora, Ont.; Stephania Lopuck (Jo) of Transcona, Man. and Retta Hanton (Palsy) of Kenora, Ont. Mamie also valued her family-in-law. She is predeceased by her husband John; her parents, Nicholas and Anna Sushnyk; her brother Peter and a sister Olyha (Ollie) Christiani. She has another brother Leonard. Mamie lived most of her life in Manitoba: Transcona, Winnipeg, Flin Flon and St. Adolphe. In failing health she moved to Lloydminster in 1996 to live with her son and his family and eventually she moved to the nearby Dr. Cookes Extended Care Centre. She bore her failing health with patience, grace and good humour and was a joy to her children, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and sisters. Mamie instructed immediate cremation and her ashes will be interred beside her husband in the Transcona Cemetery at a later date. People wishing to make memorial contributions might consider any association for the research of neurological diseases. Mamie and her family have always been grateful for the care and kindness of the staff at Dr. Cookes, Dr. T. Cavanagh is particularly thanked for his skill, caring and wise counsel.
