Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA GREY (nee DONNELLY) Peacefully, on Wednesday, January 19, 2000, Vera Grey, beloved wife to Lawrie, passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 82 years. Vera was born October 15, 1917, in Alviston, Ontario, to a United Church minister, Dr. Walter Donnelly and his wife Edith. She grew up in south-western Ontario and moved to Winnipeg as a young teenager where her father was the rector of Young United Church for many years. Vera attended Gordon Bell High School and worked briefly for the T. Eaton Company. She married Lawrie Grey in November of 1940 and moved to Thunder Bay where they raised their two children, Linda and Jim. They had an active social life and were very involved with the Kinsmen. In 1960, Vera and her family returned to Winnipeg and lived in St. Vital. They moved to Vancouver in 1970 and lived there for 11 years before finally returning to Winnipeg. Besides her husband Lawrie (of West Park Manor), Vera leaves her daughter Linda (Charlie) Eilman and their family, including granddaughter Julie (Mark) Wright, grandson Michael (Valerie) Eilman and great-granddaughter Caroline all of Baltimore; and her son Jim (Marilyn) Grey and their family, including grandson Jeff (Susie) Grey, grandson Brock (Trish) Grey, and granddaughter Jill Grey all of Vancouver. Vera will be missed also by her brother Burt and sister Doris. She was predeceased by her sisters, Nora and Lois. There will be a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 22 in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Friends may call for viewing prior to the service. Cremation will follow the service and interment will take place in Garry Memorial Park at a later date.
