GLORIA EVELYN MIDDLETON (nee PATTERSON) Gloria Evelyn passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospitals Richmond Pavilion on January 19, 2000 after a courageous 20 year battle with cancer. Gloria will be lovingly remembered and fondly missed by her husband Glenn; sons, David (Mitchels Bay, Ont.), Steve (Mill Bay, B.C.) and daughter Karen (Stouffville, Ont.). Also mourning their loss are her brother Gordon Patterson (London, Ont.) her sister Norma Patterson (Palmdale, California) and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Ontario, Manitoba, British Columbia and California, as well as her many friends at Arbutus Ridge in Cobble Hill. Born on May 19, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, Gloria grew up in Winnipeg attending General Wolf secondary and Daniel McIntyre High School. She joined CN Telegraph after leaving school and served in offices in Winnipeg, Fort Frances, Vancouver and Kitimat. After raising three children in Kitimat, Victoria, Markham, Ont., Winnipeg and Stouffville, Ont. Gloria returned to high school at Stouffville, Ont. and after graduation went on to earn diplomas as a Legal Secretary from Seneca College and Court Reporting from George Brown College. Gloria worked for a number of years for the York Region Board of Education before retiring in 1992 to Arbutus Ridge, Cobble Hill, B.C. A special thank you to the dedicated and professional nursing staff and wonderfully supportive volunteers at the Royal Jubilees cancer clinic and Richmond Pavilions palliative and hospice wards and to Dr. L. Dawn Galbraith in Mill Bay, Dr. Heidi Martins, Royal Jubilee cancer clinic and Dr. James Wilde in the Hospice ward for the loving care they provided Gloria over the years. An open invitation is extended to all her friends and relations to attend a memorial reception honouring Gloria to be held at the Arbutus Room in the Activity Centre of Arbutus Ridge, Cobble Hill at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, the 25th of January. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice Society, 1900 Fort St., Victoria or The Canadian Cancer Society, Victoria. Cremation arranged through Haywards Funeral Home, 1625 Quadra St., Victoria, B.C.
