SISTER JOHANNA SCHAERFFER The death of sister Johanna Schaerffer, of Ruth Ross Residence occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, January 21, 2000. Sister Schaerffer was born in Moschendorf, Austria, the daughter of the late Paul and Rosina (Pfeiffer) Schaerffer. Sister Johanna entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 9, 1943. Sister earned her Teachers License from the province of New Brunswick and then earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. Sister Schaerffer taught in various schools in Vancouver, B.C. which include Sacred Heart, Guardian Angel and St. Clares. Throughout her teaching career Sister also taught Catechetical classes wherever she was missioned. In 1972 Sister Johanna moved to Saint John, New Brunswick where she served as the Director of Environmental Services at St. Josephs Hospital until the mid eighties. Sister currently resided at Ruth Ross Residence. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Mary Carey. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Paula Brendli of Westhampton Beach, N.Y., and Mrs. Rose (Neil) Magee of Scarborough, Ont., and several nieces and nephews. Resting at St. Vincents Convent, 31 Cliff St., from where the funeral will be held on Monday morning for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00. Interment will take place in the Sisters plot in St. Josephs Cemetery. Solemn Vespers will be on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Visiting on Saturday, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
