SOPHIE NIMCHUK (nee YANCHUK) On January 21, 2000, at the Concordia Hospital, Sophie Nimchuk, widow of the late Nickolas Nimchuk, passed away at the age of 84 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, daughter, Madeline (Joe) Kruchak of Winnipeg; son, Don (Carole) of Langley, B.C., and son Myron of Vernon, B.C; grandchildren, Janice (Doug) Farion, Jo-Anne (Ross) Hadaller, Gerald Kruchak, Warren (Barbara), Darren (Jodie), Gary and Kevin; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Bradley Farion, Samantha and Nicollette Kruchak, Janelle, Lauren Hadaller and Cameron and Katherine; sister, Nettie (John) Watsko and brother, John Yanchuk; sister-in-law, Kay Nimchuk of Edmonton and many nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nickolas; her parents, Waysl and Fedora Yanchuk; sisters, Annie Protosavage, Jennie Nimchuk, Doris Goral, Mary Krupka and brother, Nick Yanchuk and daughter-in-law, Doris Nimchuk. Mom was born on August 12, 1915 on her parents farm in Hazelridge, Man. She married Dad on June 2, 1934 and moved to his farm as a young bride. Mom was a member of the Rossmere Community Club as well as president and secretary-treasurer. She formed the Ukrainian Ladies Club at Anola and was president and secretary-treasurer for many years. She was associated with the Womens group of the Manitoba Farmers Union. Mom and Dad retired from the farm in October, 1968 to Whiterock, B.C., and then moved back to Winnipeg in 1975. She obtained her hairdressing diploma during this time and enjoyed her many clients. Mom also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends at Kildonan Horizons, cribbage and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the home care workers, Drs. Pilat, Manusow and Killen and to the staff at the Concordia Hospital, for all of their care and compassion. Prayers will be offered on Monday evening (tonight) at 7:30 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1500 Day St. with The Very Rev. Fr. Bill Wasyliw officiating. Interment at Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or to a charity of choice. "God Keep You, Dear Baba" Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
