Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAGNES IRENE JOHNSON Agnes Irene Johnson passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2000 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She is survived by five children, daughter Brenda (Jack) Hamilton of Rosetown, daughter Bonnie (Gordie) Lalonde of Missoula, Montana, son David of Hay River, NWT, son Donald of Saskatoon, and son Bill of Calgary; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; as well as one sister Elsie Turner of Altamont, MB; three brothers-in-law, Alex Johnson of Winnipeg, Gilbert (Mildred) Currie Johnson of Abbotsford, BC and Bev Rome of Nanaimo, BC and one sister-in-law Betty Rarig of Bloomsburg, Penn. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Rev. D. Bruce Johnson (March 31, 1998) her parents, Helen (1968) and William Oakes (1958) one sister Nellie Clemis (1963) and four brothers, William (1945), Raymond (1978), Russell (1947) and Jim (1989). Agnes was born in Somerset and raised in Swan Lake, MB by her Scottish parents, Helen and William Oakes. She was an avid ball player in her youth, striking fear in the hearts of many a batter in the small towns of southern Manitoba. Upon completion of her schooling she moved to Winnipeg where she worked until her marriage to Rev. D. Bruce Johnson on October 13, 1942. They began their lives together in the small town of Sydney, MB from where they moved to Winnipeg in 1947. She supported her husbands ministry with quiet strength through appointments in Sydney, Winnipeg, Medicine Hat and Saskatoon. In their retirement, she travelled many miles with Bruce as he ministered at the small churches at Viscount, Colonsay and Plunkett. They raised four children and adopted a fifth in 1967. Agnes was always actively involved in church work, including leading the girls group C.G.I.T. for 40 years. In her 60s she discovered her talent for painting and filled our homes with lovely artwork. Agnes and Bruce kept close contact with many old friends as they faithfully split their summer holiday time between Manitoba at Victoria Beach and Winnipeg, and Missoula, Montana visiting their daughter. She delighted her grandchildren with abundance of games and activities as well as her enthusiasm for shopping and eating out. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by her family and many friends whom she quietly served throughout her 82 years. The Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, January 27 at Knox United Church (Spadina Crescent & 24th Street) at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Dr. Ivan Wilson with inurnment following at The Columbarium at St. Johns Cathedral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to a charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME.
