ANNE SHWETS With sadness, the family announce the passing of their mother and grandmother Anne Shwets on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at the age of 86 years. Anne was born February 28, 1913 at Keld, MB to Nicholas and Pearl (Negrych) Slyzuk. Following her education Anne managed a general store known as Highway Grocery located on Buchanon Avenue during the 1930s. Anne was an active member of St. Georges Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Womens Association, Lesia Ukrainka Branch in Dauphin for many years. She was very dedicated to health care and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Dauphin General Hospital for over 40 years. In her younger years, Anne was an avid 5 pin bowler and had excelled at the sport. She was predeceased by her father Nicholas in 1963; her brother John in 1945; and her mother Pearl in 1983. Anne leaves to cherish many fond memories her loving family: son Frank and wife Marilynn of Dauphin, MB; daughter Patty and husband Gerry Donovan of Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren Jennifer and Michael Donovan; two brothers Walter Slyzyk of Dauphin, MB and Bill Slyzuk of Penticton, B.C.; one sister Mary Slyzuk of Dauphin, MB; three nephews and one nieces; as well as many cousins and extended family. Prayers were offered Sunday evening, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. from the Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Chapel. Funeral service was held on Monday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Georges Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Rev. Taras Makowsky officiated. Dobr. Joanne Makowsky served as cantor. Interment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. Members of the Lesia Ukrainka Branch of Ukrainian Womens Association led the procession as an honour guard. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. Active pallbearers were, Tom Van Buekenhout, Peter Kiez, Peter Rauliuk, Gerry White, Jake Symchych and Wilfred Telfer. Should friends so desire, contributions in memory of Anne may be made to the Dauphin and District Community Foundation or to the Manitoba Lung Association. Sneath Strilchuk Funeral Service had care of arrangements.
