Tavener, loving wife, mother and grandmother, aged 72 years, passed away. Dorothy Tavener was born in Winnipeg, the daughter of missionaries, John and Emily Pringle. Dorothy lost her parents early in her childhood but was fortunate to find a warm and loving home with Erasmus and Catherine Harvey of River Heights, Winnipeg. With their care and support, Dorothy flourished throughout her adolescent and teenage years and went on to study nursing at the Childrens Hospital of Winnipeg. During her studies she met Dr. Roy H. Tavener, whom she married in 1950. Early in their marriage they moved to Selkirk, MB where they raised their family and were blessed to meet many special people and make many lifelong friends. In 1967, Dorothy and Roy moved to Winnipeg where they continued to enjoy life professionally and personally for over 30 years living in the Fort Richmond area. In addition to being a wonderful and caring mother and wife, Dorothy loved to nurse and care for disabled children. She was an active member of the nursing community in Manitoba and has special thoughts for her years at the St. Amant Centre. After retirement, Dorothy volunteered her time and talent to the Childrens Hospital Book Market where she served for many years. Left to cherish her memory, is her daughter Dawna Bennett (Dwight) of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Harvey of Calgary, Alberta and Gary of Winnipeg; her four grandchildren, Samantha, Sheryll, Tony and Todd. She also leaves one brother Don Pringle of Birtle, MB and many dear friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Thompson Funeral Home of Winnipeg with Rev. Eric Cox officiating. The family very much appreciates your thoughts and prayers and requests donations be sent to the Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
