ELLA PETERS Peacefully, on January 25, 2000 our mother and grandmother passed on to her eternal rest into the waiting arms of God. She was predeceased by her husband Henry; her brothers, John, Walter and Hugo Penner and her sister Edna Kasper. She is survived by her son Mel, wife Sandy and their children, Kim and Scott; her son Dave, wife Nancy and their daughter Madison and her daughter Gwenda; also her brothers, Harold (Joan) Penner of Victoria, BC, Leonard (Joan) Penner of Calgary, AB and her sister Hilda Friesen of Winkler, MB; sisters-in-law, Helen Penner, Carrie Penner and Lydia Peters; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Plum Coulee, MB in 1911. She was schooled in southern Manitoba, graduating from Winkler High School. She went on to graduate from St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing as an R.N. in 1938, and worked in the Winkler Hospital. After her marriage to Henry in 1940 they moved to Winnipeg. Here she raised her family and later returned to her nursing career until her retirement. Her church work and involvement was an important part of her life. She helped with the Sunday School and was instrumental in organizing the Ladies Aid of the church for which she worked many hours. Mom was an accomplished seamstress and contributed much of her work to the M.C.C. relief drives. After the passing of her husband Henry in 1978, Mom suffered a debilitating stroke. She moved in to Bethel Place Seniors Home in 1983 and with the care and support of that community was able to live there until a few weeks before her death. The family wishes to thank all her home care attendants for their care in allowing Mom to live there as long as she did. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 870 Carter Avenue, with interment following in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing at the church prior to the service. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg R3T 5K9. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel; 338-0331.
