Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEFA MYKYTYN Peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side, Josie Mykytyn passed away on January 23, 2000 at the Health Care Facility in Rainy River, ON, at the age of 91. She was born on September 26, 1908 in Stuartburn, MB. She married Dmytro Mykytyn in 1930 in Stuartburn. They had five children. In 1940 she and her husband and family moved to a farm in Rainy River, where she lived most of her life. Josie will be greatly missed by her children, Peter (Hilda) Mykytyn of Rainy River, John (Gisela) Mykytyn of Rainy River, Elsie Thompson (Emmett) of Dryden, ON, Elizabeth (Tom) Weston of Dryden, Sonya (Lawrence) Lenchyshyn of Niverville, MB; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Sirman of Rainy River, and Evelyn Chopyk of Winnipeg, MB; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Karol and Helen Baranieki; husband Dmytro Mykytyn on December 11, 1946 and infant grandson Robin Roger Mykytyn; also sisters, Anne Mandzie of Vancouver, BC, Mary Chopyk of Zhoda, MB; and numerous nieces and nephews. Josie loved her church and was an active member in the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rainy River for many years. After her husband passed away she worked very hard on the farm to raise her family. Her life truly revolved around her family and she especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, always setting an example for them to follow. She also enjoyed working in her garden, knitting and above all else, quilting. She won first prize at the Emo, ON quilting contest at the age of 85 years. Josie spent the last eight years of her life in the extended health care facilities in Fort Frances, ON and Rainy River. The tender loving care by the staff of both facilities was greatly appreciated by Josie and her family. Thank you. Your help, along with numerous family visits, kept her very content. A funeral service is to be held on Thursday, January 27, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Council Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River. Viewing will be held at 12:00 noon. Deacon George Chojke-Bolec will officiate with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Morris Mykytyn, Randy Thompson, Allan Olson, Michael Mykytyn, Tim Lenchyshyn and Paul Sirman. Honourary pallbearers are her many friends. Funeral arrangements by Greens Funeral Home, Fort Frances. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Rainy River Health Centre, Rainy River, ON P0W 1L0.
