MICHAEL GINGERA Peacefully, surrounded by his family, Michael Gingera, age 73 years, passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on January 24, 2000. Michael was born October 30, 1926 in Pulp River, MB. He spent his early years living on the family farm. He moved to Winnipeg to attend university, receiving his Bachelor of Law Degree in 1950. On one of those frequent bus rides between Winnipeg and Pulp River, he met Marie. They were married in 1951, loving and supporting each other for 46 years. They moved into their house in Norwood where they were to raise all of their eight children. Michael spent his working years involved in law, business and real estate. He enjoyed socializing, travels with Marie, and visits with his grandchildren. He liked to study and learn new things - this he passed on to his children. He was very well-read, and took a keen interest in current affairs. He always enjoyed a lively discussion, making everyone laugh with his dry wit and special brand of humour. Over the years, Michael was an active member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, Holy Family Church, and St. Thomas More Chapel. His strong faith in God was to sustain him through many difficult times. Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie in 1998, and his parents, William and Helen Gingera. His memory will live on in his children, Bev (Perry), Barbara (Ray), Randy, Brian (Monique), Steve (Linda), Donald (Cathy), Debbie (Romeo) and Patty (Craig). Grandpa now smiles down from heaven with Grandma upon their 11 grandchildren, Adam, Timothy, Jonathan, Matthew, Derek, Shane, Brittney, Scott, David, Lisa and Darren. He will be missed by his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Anne Gingera, his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Larry Chudyk; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alex and Mary Vajcner; and all his nieces and nephews. Michaels children wish to thank their uncles, aunts, and cousins for their support, advice and visits over the years. You were there always and in all ways. We wish to thank Dad and Moms friends and neighbours for being so good to the family. Special thanks go to their long-time friends, Walter and Eleanor Loewen - you taught us the true meaning of friendship. Dads illnesses necessitated stays at St. Boniface Hospital and Riverview Health Centre where he was always very well looked after. Thank you to all of the staff of 5A South Medicine for making his final days so comfortable. For the last four and one-half years, Dad lived at Tache Centre, 3 ABC Wing. We watched as each of the staff developed a special relationship with him; he enjoyed you all. Your many kindnesses and excellent care will always be appreciated. Funeral service will be held at St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, 135 John Forsyth Rd. on Saturday, January 29. There will be viewing at the church at 9:30 a.m. Fr. Paul Campeau will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Randy Gingera, Brian Gingera, Steve Gingera, Donald Gingera, Romeo Desrosiers and Ray Fillion. In lieu of flowers, you may remember Michael through your prayers, or a donation to a charity of your choice. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements; 586-8044.
