OSCAR SIGURVIN ARNASON Peacefully, on January 3, 2000, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Oscar Sigurvin Arnason of Lundar, passed away at the age of 79. Oscar was born on September 15, 1920 at Moosehorn, later moving to his grandfathers farm in the Mary Hill District. On June 12, 1943 he married Svava (Bjornson). They moved to Lundar in 1946 and Oscar continued working at farming and fishing. In later years, he enjoyed gardening, golfing and bingo. He was an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member of the B.P.O. Elks and the New Horizons Club. Oscar was a devoted father and grandfather, and spent many an hour entertaining his grandchildren. He also spent endless hours with his special companion, his dog Shorty, who will miss him dearly. Oscar leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 56 years, Svava, son Allan, daughters Ethel Desjarlais (Marvin), Lynne Stevenson (Kerry) of Calgary, grandchildren Manly, Michelle (Troy), Marc, Michael (Becky), Kerri (Luke), Chad, Robbie and David, and great-grandchildren Anthony, Skylar, Shayne and Trey. Also his sisters, Petrina (Wendell), Vi (Slim), Marion (Bill), brother John (Muriel) and sister-in-law Lara. He was predeceased by his parents Jon and Olaf Arnason, brothers Stefan kand Arni, and daughter-in-law Hilda. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8 at the LundarLunday Community Hall, with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. In accordance with Oscars wishes, the service will conclude at the hall, with cremation to follow. Interment will be held at the Lundar Municipal Cemetery at a later date. Active Pallbearers will be Manly Arnason, Marc Desjarlais, Michael Desjarlais, Chad Stevenson, Robbie Stevenson and Blair Burdett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Philip Nelson, Dan Danielson, Les Gudmundson, Valdi Bjornson, Clarence Johnson, Roy Caldwell and members of the B.P.O. Elks of Lundar. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Burnet and Dr. Ward and the staff at the Eriksdale Hospital for the wonderful care they gave Oscar over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lundar Personal Care Home, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0, or to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements by: Arnason Funeral Home Ltd.
