STELLA HARES (nee SOROKA) 1934 - 2000 Stella Hares, beloved wife of Ron, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; sons, Kenneth (Shirley) and Richard (Lisa) and three beautiful grandchildren, Samantha, Zachary and Emily. Mom was born in Poland and came to Canada in 1938. Her parents first settled in the Oak Hammock area and later moved to the Birds Hill area. In 1950 she moved to Winnipeg where her first job was mixing baby formula at the Childrens Hospital. After numerous jobs she retired from the Food Services Department at the Paddle Wheel, Bay downtown. Mom cared for her family and also the neighbourhood wildlife including pigeons, gray squirrels, stray dogs and cats. She was an exceptional cook making family dinners on special occasions. Visitors were often included. After the birth of her grandchildren, they became her priority. Funeral service will take place in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, on Thursday, January 6, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Interment Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Marr and the 3E staff at Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Humane Society or Riverview Health Centre.
